How Fontmaps are made…

We’ve been asked many times how the Fontmaps are made, so we’ve made a little video together of our process.

To make them as accurately as possible, all of our designs are based upon an actual map of the country which are used as a base for the work. Letter-by-letter the piece is slowly built up to give a pretty accurate geographical representation of the country/region.

Each map can take between 3-20 hours to create, depending on the complexity of the subject. I’m pleased to say that Jamaica turned out to be relatively simple and took around 4 hours to complete.
